1) How did the name Fifth Palate come about?

The name Fifth Palate refers to “umami”, the fifth basic taste alongside sweetness, sourness, bitterness and saltiness. It also resembles the surname “Wu” in Mandarin, which is important because this is a family establishment. And much like the Japanese word “umami”, which has been described as a “pleasant savoury taste”, Fifth Palate is distinct in a way that can be difficult to define.

2) What drives Fifth Palate?

Our passion is to bring joy to the neighbourhood through consistently serving up delicious and thoughtfully prepared food with a family’s loving touch. 

3) What differentiates Fifth Palate from others?

The most important element that separates Fifth Palate from others is that ours is a family affair. Founders Timmy and Caryne are a brother and sister duo whereby Timmy is the one calling the shots in the kitchen whilst Caryne does front of house, and dad is in charge of making the homemade yogurts, chutneys and jams.


4.) How old is Fifth Palate?

Fifth Palate opened its first brick and mortar on 8th August 2015. 

5) Everybody Loves Ramen

Unlike other Ramen specialty stores, our Ramen is of a light shoyu broth, served with our homemade pork belly, poached egg and apricot mushroom. Chef Timmy created this dish because he wanted to offer a different brunch option to our customers.

6) Drunken Frenchman

Our signature French Toast with a twist. A sweet & savoury treat! Brioche Bread with caramelized banana, pork bacon, served with our in-house made peanut butter, Guinness Stout reduction and a scoop of Forty-Licks Vanilla ice-cream. The combination is mind-blowing!!

7) Turkish Baked Eggs

One of our all time brunch favorite. We used our in-house made spiced aubergine & tomato sauce and served with chorizo sausages, egg & mozarella cheese.

8) Aburi Salmon

Our newly introduced dish. Salmon fillet cooked pink, topped with torched chilli lime mayo. Served on a bed of red rice cake and mixed salad.

9) Homemade Yogurt

Our yogurts are freshly made on a weekly basis and there are no preservatives added to it. Current available flavours are Wheatgrass (best seller), Mango, Soursop, and plain yogurt.  

10) Dennis & Sons by Fifth Palate

We have also recently launched our very own product range called Dennis & Sons by Fifth Palate featuring Rojak Sauce, Aubergine Chutney and Chunky Peanut Butter.

Over time we hope to build on our menu and slowly introduced a more extensive hot kitchen menu with pork ribs, pastas and rice dishes. So stay tune! xx
