It’s quite a common sight to have plants in or around your space, whether indoors or outdoors. The thing about most plants is that they have to be watered and “fed” (with fertiliser and sunlight) in order to survive and thrive, and that’s… basically it. However, certain plants are actually carnivores, as in, they trap and eat insects. Definitely interesting to have these plants at home, and Bunface Potato Carnivorous Plants is the place to go to purchase or learn more about them!

About Bunface Potato Carnivorous Plants

Bunface Potato Carnivorous Plants is a boutique nursery and gardening centre that specialises in carnivorous plants and terrariums. At the moment, they house more than 100 cultivars of carnivorous plants, all in a full indoor setup to introduce the idea of indoor gardening, with the key of proper lighting. Founders August and Kenneth started the nursery in late 2019, being highly fascinated by these insect-eating plants: the snapping mechanism of a Venus flytrap, the leaf-curling of a drosera, and the pitfall traps of pitcher plants. These plants aren’t just for aesthetic purposes either; you can actually assemble these plants in open terrariums to hunt bugs for you too! Of course, you can also arrange them in closed terrariums if they’re more of a decoration.

Cool Carnivorous Plants

August and Kenneth are considered amateurs in this hobby, but they’re propelled by their passion and interest, receiving guidance from other masters along the way. They themselves started with just a single pot of Venus flytrap at home, then an aquarium full of carnivorous plants at the office, and now their collection has substantially grown. Through their nursery, they hope to bring awareness to the public regarding these cool plants, and educate them on how to grow them successfully by providing them with the proper conditions. Carnivorous plants in general need plenty of light and water, and no fertiliser. These plants naturally live in a nutrient-deficient environment, and the hunting strategy was thus developed. Fertiliser will kill them instead!

Plants x Anime

Besides being fans of carnivorous plants, they are anime fans as well! At Bunface Potato Carnivorous Plants, you’ll be able to find Venus flytraps, sundews, monkey cups, trumpet pitchers, butterworts, and bladderworts to name a few. But that’s not all, for you can also discover Totoro and Susuwatari implemented into their terrarium designs, including “Susuwatari Sphere” and “Little Kodama”. The former is a terrarium, whereas the other is a series of carnivorous forest set up in an aquarium. You can walk in to pick up a terrarium, whereas they post potted plants nationwide. These plants, being insect-eaters, can be a help at home to get rid of beetles, mosquitoes, ants, flies and such, so if you have an insect problem at home, you may want to get some carnivorous plants!

The Rise Of Carnivorous Plants

Bunface Potato Carnivorous Plants’ dream is a simple one: to see carnivorous plants thriving everywhere; in homes, offices, cafes, and of course, where they belong in the wild. Also, if you have some figurines that you want to incorporate into your terrarium, you can bring them over to Bunface Potato Carnivorous Plants. They find it an honour to create these custom-made terrariums! It should be noted that carnivorous plants from temperate regions may enter a dormancy period and “sleep”, which means it pretty much looks dead. However, they do “resurrect”, and Bunface Potato Carnivorous Plants calls it a “truly amazing” experience when they reawaken. Most recently, they have been voted #1 on our list of Top 10 Plant Nurseries in Penang, and have also had a customer, a science teacher, show these plants to her student, passing on the knowledge to the next generation. The love for carnivorous plants knows no bounds!
