Father, a person we always use as a blueprint to build ourselves into the person we are today. Despite some of us may describe our father as a strict, fierce or unfriendly person, well, some fathers actually make an ongoing effort to spend time with their children and offer positive attention. We value our father who is always readily available, whether we need an advice, a hug or a super-fan at our sports day. As we grow up, we may not be spending as much time with him as we did when we were young. But there are some things we will definitely miss doing with him in every occasion.
1. Going for a bike ride around the neighbourhood
Just a minute after your mom said “Do not ride on the bike, it’s dangerous!”, your dad will quietly asked you to get on to the back seat and off you go to detour around the neighbourhood. I bet you couldn’t wait to tell your friends about how cool your dad was the next day at school.
2. Taking on your first bicycle ride lesson
Falling off, grazing your knees, and that wonderful, exhilarating moment when you got the hang of two wheels. That was the time you get to see a big smile on your father’s face with two thumbs up saying “well done!”.
3. Going on thrill rides at the theme park
If you have an adventurous or playful father, you would have plenty of opportunities getting your adventure fix with thrill and exciting rides at the theme park every school holiday.
4. Washing all the cars at home during weekend
Spending the weekend washing all the cars at home with your father was the best bonding activity. A car-expert father would probably give you a full tutorial on how to wash and polish a car. After the car wash session, that would be the fun part where you guys get to play “water-gun” game together!
5. Making your very own “toys” with recycled materials
Some of us may not grow up rich. We didn’t have the luxury to buy new toys every now and then. Here came our super-dad putting on his creativity cap and made our very own toys out of recycled materials. In the end, we were so proud to tell others that ours was the only edition available in the world.
6. Learning how to play his favourite sports
Spending weekends at the football field, basketball court or swimming pool, with the guidance of your dad, you get to learn a wide array of sports which your father loves. Hoping that one day you can play as well as him.
7. Doing gardening together
Gardening with father is great fun regardless of our age. We get to spend time together exchanging notes on the kind of fertilizer to use on our gardens, and the anticipation of waiting for the seed to sprout.
8. Travelling together
Family trip was the best moment we get to spend quality time with our family - forcing your father to pose for pictures or trying out local delicacies which he finds it weird etc. Good times!
9. Giving dad a tutorial on how to use his first smartphone
Do you remember your father’s expression when you first got him a smartphone? He was so lost and did not know how to use a touch screen phone. You had to sit next to him and show him step by step how to make a call, send a text message, and sign up email or Facebook accounts. After numerous sessions of tutorials, he’s now an expert of Facebook, Instagram, Candy Crush and Bejeweled.
10. Having endless chats and advice sessions
He cheered you on after you get scolded by your mom, gave you relationship or career advice, taught you how to tie your first tie, throw your first ball, and even let you win and show him up on an occasion or two.
