We have all heard the saying that “a healthy mind begins with a healthy body”. From tasting the latest meal replacement shakes to the new fad exercise routine, we are constantly flooded with new information and fads on fitness. However, the most successful athletes have shown that fads don’t work and instead, they embrace fitness as a lifestyle. Here are some gems of wisdom we can gain from the fitness world.
1) Mind-set Change
All the great professionals have constantly shown that to embrace fitness means to have a radical mindset change. The change should view the idea of fitness as a lifestyle, rather than a new fad. After all, Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither will your fitness.
2) Have Conviction in your Goals and Track it!
Whether it’s losing 30 pounds of weight, running a 10km marathon or improving your blood pressure, have an unshakable conviction of your goals and most importantly, track them! Develop a laser like focus and go chase those goals!
In your journey of fitness, you will encounter setbacks. Goals need to be challenging and with any challenge, setbacks are inevitable. Just remain consistent and stick to the game plan.
This may sound cliché, but discipline is the pillar of success for any great achievement. It requires discipline and character to stick to your diet plan, workout routine, resisting that slice of pizza and of course, sticking through the journey.
5) Visualizing a new YOU!
You may be overweight now, but visualizing a new you of which you have that 6 pack of yours or fitting into your skinny jeans is one of the most powerful motivators. After all, if you can see the future, you can create it faster!
6) No Shortcuts
The fitness world can be a cruel place as it won’t hide your flaws or have shortcuts like in Microsoft Excel. If you are unable to lift 100 pounds, you won’t be able to lift 100 pounds. The key is to take it in your stride and come back again to conquer that challenge.
7) Decide on Your “Weapon”
Whether it’s a low-carb diet plan, a cross-fit exercise regime or a progressive weight training program, the key is to decide on your “weapon” of attack and launch it wisely. Remember, results takes time and it requires patience and grit to persevere through it
8) Knowing Your Limits & Beyond
The fitness world shows you your current limits. However, those limits are often exceeded months down the road. This shows that your limits are not constant, and it’s up to you to challenge those limits and to go beyond.
9) Devil in the Details
You may have felt proud avoiding that 500 calories worth of chocolate, but then you consume an extra portion of nuts, a slice of cheese and that “nutritious” fruit drink, totaling 600 calories. This shows that the devil is often in the details.
10) Change is Possible!
All the strength you need is already inside you. At the end of the journey, you will realize change is possible and it’s up to you to embrace it. Nothing is ever permanent.
