From the world No. 1 to 180, then an amazing comeback to No. 1, and the age defying display in the recent Olympic Games, the national shuttler Dato’ Lee Chong Wei has once again proved that he is a great sportsman. Here's what can we learn from Dato’ Lee Chong Wei, the forever champion in our heart. 

1) Learn to control your emotions

No matter you are in a bad or good situation, learn to keep calm and control your emotions. If you win the game, you win with class. Even if you lose, do not lose your tantrums. Instead congratulate your opponent with an open heart.

2) Always think positively

Always have a positive mind set even if we have to face bitter circumstances with endurance. The worth of happiness can be realised by us to its fullest if we had undergone abominable situation. Always remember, great people are great because they didn’t quit!


3) Give it your best, all the time

Play at your best all the time, not only when you feel like it. Although you might not always be at the peak, but you should not stop learning throughout the journey.


4) Show commitment and determination

Dedicate yourself to excellence. Commit yourself to becoming the best that you can be. Be willing to sacrifice and don’t cut corners. Champions don’t become champions by cutting corners or looking for the easy way out. Instead you must be willing to step outside of your comfort zone.

5) Open to feedback

No successful players can really do it alone. This will only limit your development as a champion without a good coach to unlock your true potential. You should be open to and look for good coaching. It’s always the fastest and smartest way to get where ever you want to go.


6) Be humble

Learning to be humble is of paramount importance in sports, and humility can help you develop more fully and enjoy richer relationships with others, as well as create opportunities and earn you respect.


7) Show respect

Show respect to yourself by treating others the way you want to be treated. Respect not only your teammates, but also your opponents, coaches, the officials and rules of the game.

8) Be patient

Enduring defeat with patience and waiting for the right time to arise is what sportsman spirit is all about. Without patience, it will be difficult to make the right decision and land himself/ herself in the best situation.
