Malaysians are born with distinctive eating ability. We crave good food and we always seem to know where to find the best food. Here are some of the eating behaviours that we all possess as one of the best eaters in the world.
1) We do research before going somewhere new to eat
Going all the way to a new place to find that the food sucks is a big turn off. It is too risky a move and it ruins the mood! Therefore, Malaysians conduct background search, read food reviews and food blogs before trying out a new place. Do you?
2) We prefer street foods than eating in nice air-conditioned restaurants
We all have this moment. Especially true when it comes to traditional foods. If both vendors are selling char keow teow, Malaysians will choose the hawker stall over air-conditioned restaurant. This is the law of nature for Malaysians, somehow.
3) We let the camera eats first
Chupp! The camera eats first! Malaysians like to take picture of the food before we eat them. Be it for social posting or for memory, it has become part of our customary in recent years. And many of us are guilty of this bad habit.
4) We are all food critics
Malaysians are generous when it comes to giving comments, especially on horrendous food. Words of mouth spread fast in Malaysia. Hence if you run a food business, be sure that your food meet a certain standard. Or else it will come back to haunt you.
5) We share ‘kao-kao’ when we discover hidden gems
However, Malaysians are not all bad food critics after all. If the food is real good, we share ‘kao-kao’ about it too. We post on social media, we tell our friends and revisit it. We will make sure the business gets the fame that it deserves as long as the food is good.
6) We do not mind to go a long distance for good food
Unlike before, location is no longer one of the competing factors for food business in Malaysia. The only criteria that we look for is good taste. If you serve good food, be rest assured Malaysians will come to you, wherever you are located.
7) We do not mind queuing too.
"If there’s a queue, it must be good food." This is a general perception of many Malaysians. Yes, we do not mind queueing, as long as it is good food. This is another proof how much effort Malaysians are willing to put in for delicious food.
8) We do not tolerate bad service
If there is one thing that kills good food, it would be bad service. Malaysians are becoming more and more sensitive to how they are served. If a shop serves good food but gives bad service, then the fate of the shop is sealed.
9) We are price-sensitive
Malaysians are fully aware of how reasonable they can be charged. If something is unreasonably overpriced, even by a small fraction, we will make sure the shop doesn't see us anymore. This is because we all are smart consumers.
10) We can eat all day long
Sky is the limit when it comes to eating delicious food. Malaysians can eat all day long at any time of the day. Besides the usual breakfast, lunch and dinner, we have brunch, tea session and supper too. Not mentioning the "yum cha" sessions at odd hours.
