With the rapid change of technology and improved innovations, things had change to become more convenient for all of us. Some of these things we experienced back in the day will no longer be part of our kids’ day-to-day life.
1) The dial-up internet connection
Bet that kids these days have never heard of that dialing sound - the sound that we were hoping and praying so hard that the connection would go through.
2) The slow download speed
How frustrating was that to take us forever to download a song or movie. No matter what software we used, the download status will always be showing ‘downloading’.
3) The struggle of abc texting
Kids these days will never understand the struggle of abc texting, hitting a key 3 times just to get 1 letter.
4) Mobile phone was a luxury, not necessity
During those days, how official we were if we had one of these. Now, everyone see it as a necessity.
5) The importance of public phone
While not everyone owns a mobile phone, hence, we will need to go all out to search for a public phone when there is a need to make an emergency call outside. But what frustrated us was the need to carry a large amount of coins to make sure we had change to make the call.
6) The excitement of chatting over MSN or ICQ
The first thing we got back from school was to sign in MSN or ICQ and chat with our crush. We were so amazed that MSN and ICQ get to connect us to the people around the whole world.
7) The problem we had with cassettes
The frustration where we will need a pencil with us on standby at all time to wind the cassettes back up. I wonder does kids these days have ever seen a cassette.
8) Travel with a physical map, not Waze
The amount of effort we needed to identify the places that we wanted to go and make sure the locations were correctly marked on the map were massive. We may need to bear the tendency of getting lost if we have a co-driver who’s poor at reading map.
9) Searching Yellow Pages for contacts
These days people always say “Google is our best friend”. Back then, Yellow Pages was our best friend where we can find all sorts of contacts we needed for plumbing, painting, caterer, nusring and etc.
10) Uncertain photo qualities taken from film camera
There wasn’t a 'display' button on our film camera; when we took the film to develop there may be a chance that 99% of the photos were blurry and in bad quality.
