10 British Actors Who Are Set To Conquer Hollywood

Britain is famous for many fine things, like Big Ben, William Shakespeare and Fish and Chips, but there are also a slew of notable entertainers who hail from that region, and this post especially focuses on 10 british actors whose names you will definitely hear more of this year, and in the years to come.

1) Tom Hiddleston

His international breakthrough was as the mischievous brother of Thor, but the man who made fangirls go gaga for the villainous Loki is showing off his acting range this year with a lot of projects on his plate. Besides acting in The Night Manager miniseries with fellow Brit Hugh Laurie, he’s also going to be seen playing a country musician, a soldier hunting for King Kong and a doctor stuck in a questionable high rise apartment.

2) Idris Elba

Another one who’s been seen onscreen alongside the God of Thunder is Mr. Elba, but after that he pledged to cancel the apocalypse in Pacific Rim. Since then, his career has skyrocketed significantly. This year alone he’s lent his velvety voice to star in box office hits like Zootopia and The Jungle Book, but he’ll also be seen in the next Star Trek movie and will again voice an animated character in Finding Dory.

3) Benedict Cumberbatch

When he’s not solving crimes on TV as Sherlock Holmes, Cumberbatch has got his work cut out for him elsewhere. For one thing, he’ll be joining the ranks of the two actors mentioned above as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where he’ll play Dr. Strange. He will also be featured in another production of The Jungle Book where he’ll play Shere Khan.

4) John Boyega

Before he charmed his way into audiences hearts as Finn in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the 24 year old had been involved in other acting projects since 2011. After his breakthrough in a galaxy far far away though, the sky’s the limit for Boyega. While he preps for the next Star Wars film, he’ll also be seen in The Circle, opposite Tom Hanks and Emma Watson.

5) Eddie Redmayne

Looking at his recent films, it would seem that Eddie hasn’t had a break in awhile, and if his Oscar for Best Actor is any indication, he’s going to remain quite busy for longer. He’ll be channeling magic next as a wizard in Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, which is scheduled for release this year.

6) David Oyelowo

David is a trained thespian who is well versed in bringing some of England’s classic literature to life on stage and worked with celebrated film-makers, but that doesn’t mean he shies away from other roles. In fact, he currently voices a character on Star Wars Rebels, and has 5 films in the lineup for upcoming roles between this year and the next.

7) Henry Cavill

8) Tom Hardy

Considering Hardy’s experience includes Christopher Nolan films and last year’s Oscar favourites like Mad Max: Fury Road and The Revenant, it is safe to say his career won’t slow down anytime soon. Hardy’s already slated to appear in another Mad Max film, and is currently starring in a mini-series called Taboo.

9) Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje

He began his career glamorously, as a model in Milan, but he’s also trained as a lawyer. His movie career started years ago, and he’s also been on Game of Thrones and several other TV shows. This year however he plays one of the members of DC’s Suicide Squad, and he’ll also be voicing a character in Disney’s Tangled TV show. Nowhere to go but up for Adewale!

10) Tom Holland

The youngest of the bunch may not have as much star power as the others on the list yet, but he’s in good company, considering he’ll be webslinging his way around in this year’s Captain America film as Spider-man. It only took a few seconds of him appearing in the latest trailer for the Internet to blow up with searches of his name. Definitely one to watch out for.
