Usually found in a local neighborhood, Kedai Runcit in Malay language simply means a mini mart. However, it means more than just a mini mart for me. As a Malaysian kid born in the 80s, Kedai Runcit was where I found my childhood happiness. I could still remember those days when I would visit my neighborhood Kedai Runcit for the toys and snacks. Though they were nothing expensive or premium, they never fail to cheer me up.
During one of my weekends, I had the opportunity to revisit a traditional Kedai Runcit after all these years. At the moment I stepped in, I could already recall my younger days and reminisce how my childhood days were spent at a Kedai Runcit. To my surprise, some of the old school toys and snacks were still around! Do you still remember any of these?
Let's reminisce our childhood days!
Look what I've found!
Sadly, as society advances, Kedai Runcit is no longer the place-to-go for many children. Shopping malls instead have become the preferred weekend destination given its vibrancy and liveliness. Kedai Runcit is slowly phasing out. But if you think Kedai Runcit is cool like I do, share this article around!
